Revisit Rob Trumbour’s exhibition at outside: Time is no longer what you know it to be

ROB TRUMBOUR is a practicing artist, a founding partner in the design/research practice Khôra, Associate Professor of Architecture at Wentworth Institute of Technology (Boston, MA) and the founding director of the Boston-based design collaborative Artforming. Educated in the fields of the fine arts and architecture, Rob prefers to occupy the space between and identifies first and foremost as a maker. During a break from a primary concentration of graphic design during his fine arts undergraduate studies, Rob began still life painting in the studio with an ambient northern daylight as the only source of illumination. Through this sustained process of studying the still life and painting from observation, Rob discovered a fascination for the relationship between form, space and light. This insight has shaped his creative practice and his evolving interest in an interdisciplinary art practice. Rob’s work engages in art, architecture and landscape through the medium of installation art and emerging technologies. His work is often highly collaborative involving a number of collaborators including students, visual artists, architects, writers, musicians and composers.

Rob has been an Invited artist and designer for several public installations and galleries since 2007 throughout New England. His most recent work appeared in a solo show, Time Is No Longer What We Know It to Be at the Outside Gallery in North Adams, Massachusetts. Rob has been a contributing writer for Big Red & Shiny, Architecture Boston, Shift Boston and author of several peer reviewed publications focusing on public art and the interdisciplinary medium of installation. His work has been reviewed and featured in Architecture Boston, The Boston Globe, Globe Magazine, Boston Society or Architects Space and the Gloucester Daily Times. He has been an invited speaker at events sponsored by the New England Foundation for the Arts, Now and There and the Boston Center for the Arts, Boston’s ArtWeek, Union Square Main Streets and the Boston Society of Architects. Rob has served as critic at several art and design academic institutions and as guest juror for the Boston Society of Architects Unbuilt Awards, Landscape Architecture Awards and Sustainability Awards. In 2015 Rob served as Guest Curator for the exhibition, Bigger than a Breadbox at the Boston Society of Architects, BSA Space Gallery which surveyed the diverse medium of installation in both art and architecture.

Rob has an M.F.A at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design with a focus on installation and the time-based mediums of video, film and sound, a Master of Architecture from the University of Texas at Austin, and a B.F.A in Fine Arts from the University of Massachusetts, North Dartmouth.
